Vehicles in German City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities mentioned they were notified by a individual who noticed a car in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.

The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then located many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.

Police say early analysis suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.

City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the residents for information.

A high-ranking political figure commented the attack made him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
